OCR A2 media students Teaser Trailer
Charlotte- another really simple concept which follows a typical story lines of most romantic comedies. Two guys fighting over the same girl. The trailer they created does not reveal too much of what is going to happen if the film was made. A lot of the story is missed out and does show enough in getting the audience to wanting to watch more. In a way this is similar to 'This means war' but just a simplified version of this.
Music
The music they have used through the teaser trailer is quite upbeat and they have used it throughout. Lyric-ed music used through the trailer. They have started the music from the very first ident they have decided to use. This is typical of companies to start the track at.
Length of trailer- 1:22
The trailer that this group of students have created is well with in the range of the allotted time of a trailer.
Shots/ length- Very quick, Close ups, mid shots
Each shot is at most only a couple of seconds long, which is typical of trailers to follow. This is helping to build the story. The added track helps with what they have created, each shot is on the beat of the track. The shot types that are used are mainly close ups and mid shots. This follows typical conventions of a trailer, and emphasises the feelings that they have for one another. The shots of the pair of them going to kiss, the holding of hands, makes this suggestion giving a greater impact on the story.
Devices used- Inter-titles
The titles used during the sequence have been used effectively as it has added a greater impact on the effect it has on the audience. The titles used during the sequence uses the same colour background. A pale yellow, with the titles appearing sliding onto screen and then off again, apart from the first two where it is the company, which has a black background. This is typical as they would normally use the actual ident of the company. The titles for the names of the people are a different colour to what the rest of the trailers titles. In this case it is black, and is capitalised making it different from the rest and stands out. It shows that these people are important and should be made aware of, this makes the audience to pay further attention to the trailer and watch out for any other film that they are to make a starring role. The font colour used is red for the start titles and then for the final titles it becomes blue.
Information told- Not Much
This is ideal as the trailer gives just enough information to get the audience interested in wanting more. The idea of showing small snip-its of the film is what most trailers do so this example is good. From this trailer it is clear as to what is going on, the girl dates another and her best friend develops feelings for her and then tries to win her heart rather than the one she is dating.
Predict what happens- Sort of
From this trailer I would expect that the guy gets the girl rather than the one she is dating.
The story of this trailer is really good and it adheres to conventions of romantic comedy trailers. However, I am finding an issue with this trailer with some of the shots. Especially when the camera pans, the shot is not that clear and also the shots of when he is writing. This might have been due to the camera they used. But the overall trailer is still a really good one.

This Means War teaser trailer- same basic principal as the A2 students work. It is much more over the top than the coursework which is understandable as it is made by a company. To incorporate the action into the film (CIA agents) makes it different and more interesting to other Romantic Comedies.
Length of trailer- 2:30
This is just on the mark with the length of the trailer. 2:30 is the limit to the length of a trailer. Apart from the exception of the one film that each company produce that can be extended.
Shots/ length- < couple of seconds wide, mid, close ups
The shot lengths are well within the allotted time given for which trailers normally stick to. Shots for which the trailer follows are mid shots, close up and wide shots. Since this trailer revolves around agents they have had to show more than just a romantic storyline, therefore the idea of having other shots makes sense and falls in line with what is shown. It shows the action and targets the male audience, but also the female.
Devices used- Inter- Titles
It is one device that is typically used within the majority of trailer genres. It helps to get the story across to the audience more easily and it allows them to understand. They have the same format for each title placed in the sequence. It provides extra information as well. The Titles are capitalised which is what is to be expected with the genre for which this classes under.
Information told- Quite a bit but at the same time not a lot.
This reveals that they compete to stop each other from getting the girl, but it does not reveal if one of them gets her or not. It also reveals that the men are agents and has something to do with presidential day. Overall, they reveal enough to get people to want to watch the film.
Predict what happens- Not really
This is a good thing as it leaves people questioning and that it gives them something to socialise over, creating their own endings for this and then seeing if they are correct with what they say.
