For what I am creating I have decided to include a voice over that will be done by the main actor within the trailer. This will consist of the actor saying:
My life was perfect until the day everything changed Actor says- I'm moving would actually be said on screen Actor says- I need to find her- would actually be said on screen Then voice over starts again- This is where my journey truly begins Depending on how the phrases go when placed in the trailer, I might need to add extra content to help explain what is going on. This may change when I actually come round to recording this as this would not take up much of the trailer and depending on whether my actor can say all the lines clearly enough. The titles that are going to be included with in the trailer are: -But when they will meet again -Five Years Later -Friendship never ends -It only gets stronger -The names of the actors- 'Anna May' and 'Johnny Haze' -Title- Young Love If I do not go ahead with the voice over extra titles may be needed. ![]()
I have been looking at Free Music Archive and found some music that can be used in the trailer, the first one I think the first part of the song could be used.
Both songs have relevance to what the trailer is about. Young Romance as the trailer is about a young couple and the title of the trailer is Young Love, so this one is very relevant to the story. Where as The One relates to the fact that she is the girl of his dreams and ends up going back to where he left her. So this is relevant to this part of the plot.
Both of the songs above each consist of lyrics that are highly relevant to what is going on. 'The One' says 'You were the one' meaning that it was someone from the past that mean a lot to him and that it would refer to her when she is either going to appear up in a tree or when she's walking to help the audience make sense of what is happening.
Where as the other one 'Young Romance' says 'sit myself and write to you' the male character would be shown writing a letter to the female. 'Don't deserve this' this could refer to the fact that he left and has returned and it would be quite awkward so could refer to that making it seem like she does not deserve what is going on, or when she gets a text from her boyfriend it could refer to her not deserving him from how she is treating him. There are other lyrics with in this song that could refer to some of the imagery that takes place. Therefore, from looking at the lyrics of each I have decided to go with the second song as that relates to what is going on a lot better. From looking at a resource (Media magazine April 2014: Prodcution) from the library I have found some points I need to be careful of when filming/ editing:
From looking at this resource it has also helped with developing my analysis of the teaser trailers of both the ones made by other students and actual trailers. By analysing them in terms of length, devices etc. www.thefilmspace.org www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2012/01/15/145227280 www.wired.com/underwire/2013/06/art-of-the-trailer/ www.filmeducation.org/teachingtrailers/secondary/
The props that are required for the trailer are:
Pre-Production complete:
Pre-production still left to do/ complete:
I have managed to get my main two actors sorted for the trailer and I am currently trying to organise a time to do a run through of certain sections of the shots. To see if they work or would need some adjustments, but unfortunately I am unable to do this, this week and next week with both actors due to my work schedule. However, I should be able to work with one of them next Monday to do some practice shooting that requires just one of them.
I have decided to create a video of the storyboard with the transitions to see how it would look after completing the filming of the footage. This is my attempt of creating an animatic, it shows the main shots that the trailer will consist of. It however, does not show the movement that will take place as I needed more storyboards and I should have used Adobe After Effects instead of Windows Live Movie Maker but the main principle of what I am going to do is there.
Today, I have been looking through the trailers, I have already analysed plus others to see whether or not, what I have done so far is alright for a trailer or it would be too much like a short film. I have come to the conclusion that what I have done is too similar to a short film, as there is too much shown in the same location, I will need to reduce down what I have written for some of the locations.
I have edited the shot list and does seem to work better as a trailer and I have included when the actors names and the added phrases are going to appear. It has also broken it up more than what it would have been without them. I can now work on the script for the trailer, which should be alright to do so with the shot list being drafted. I should hopefully get the actors sorted by the end of the week or at latest next week. I will be going to the schools next Monday to ask the head teacher whether or not I can film the people who could possibly be interested in doing this. Plus provide them with a letter to give to anyone that is interested in being the actors for me. The name of the characters are going to be very important as certain names have specific meaning and I will need to find names that are appropriate for the teaser trailer. The name has to have some relevance to romance. So I will need to make sure the names suit the concept which I will need to sort before filming. meaning of names link http://www.meaning-of-names.com/search/index.asp?nm=opal http://www.name-meanings.com/name-meanings/a.php?choice=meaning&gender=&s=440 name generator http://random-name-generator.info/random/?n=10&g=3&st=2 I will need to get the character names sorted, to make the script make more sense with what is done. I have been looking at possible names for both the male and female roles in the trailer. Possible names for the character: Some of the names above could be relevant to the idea and are the ones I have narrowed the list down to. However, the one that I think is most appropriate for the girl is either Kerry or Sarah as their names refer to Princess and would need to make some sort of decision as to who they would choose as their lover. This is important to the story as the character would have to choose between her boyfriend who is away or her love from years ago.
The boys name I am finding to be a bit more difficult, I have found some names for this but nothing that is really suitable for the character. I will need to continue looking at the names for this. This is the final script, I have changed it to include what I have decided to go ahead with using the same people for both sections for young and old. The dialogue has changed. I have not wrote a script for a while and I have forgotten the structure of what it looks like. Below is an example of a screenplay I have found that shows what it is supposed to look like. I have written the a draft of the script. I have not included the names of the characters as I have not thought of the names as of yet but just included whether it is the male or female actor talking. This is the first version of the script. Second version of the script, I have changed the middle section to make it easier to film, and the end section slightly. I will need to make a thew more adjustments. But also include the character names. If I cannot find anyone to act the beginning section of the kids in the woods, I will start the teaser trailer from the boy returning to the street. Also, the use of the phone at the very end I have used alternatives of how the prop is going to be used. Therefore I am going to try and do both versions to see which one is more suitable.
The section with the bus in the first shot list might need to be changed due to permission filming and I would need to find a time when there would not be that many people on the bus. Also, what I have put does seem more like a short film than a trailer as there is too much going on in the same location. Therefore, an alternative place to film this is just outside, possibly having her pass him in the street. This might work better than the bus version. I have thought about whether or not the bus shot list would work and I have come to the conclusion that it could cause the footage to go badly wrong due to the bus journey not being a smooth ride and there would be too many camera angles to deal with and would probably be impossible to deal with them all. With saying that shots could be done outside, there would not be that many shots to deal and would seem more like a trailer than what I had initially put into the shot list.
In the alternative shot list I have included a split screen between messages being sent and them doing things together. In modern society the need to communicate through letters about there feelings are no longer existent. And the need to use social networking to just write it, it would be more appropriate with the age group but also the culture in today's society. However, at the end I have included a letter that he will give her at the end and so might be more appropriate with him trying to write a letter, it will give it a more personal touch and show that it is still done in society. This will also make him seem mature with the fact that he is writing his feelings down on paper and handing it to the girl I have also included what will happen in the structure of what will happen during the editing on Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 when added phrases will appear during the sequence. I will also need to include actor names to appear during the sequence as well. I will be doing a first run through shortly, depending on when I get permission to film the younger people and get a male actor sorted. The use of the male actor attempting to write the letter gives the emphasis of the love that he has and does not know how to write his feelings down on paper. The locations I have thought of so far are:
What I have planned to do is film in as many locations as possible featured above to see what works best with what is going to happen. Issues with locations Due to most of the locations being outside I need to film on a sunny day to have the most appropriate effect in the trailer without the need to do much editing of the individual footage. However, if the days I intend to film are not that great I would have to just alter the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5. Permission to film in desired location- in specific the bus scene. If I cannot get permission to film I would use the alternative shot list. Weather is going to be a big issue as the majority of what I intend to include is going to be outside. Due to last year having issues with the organisation of actors, I have decided to this create a casting list to get people possibly from the drama department in college to have as understudies or even the year 11's in the school for the teaser trailer to prevent any issues taking place. I will set to work on creating this later on.
As mentioned before, I have my female actor sorted but I have not yet sorted the male actor. I will add the profile later on after first shooting. Due to what I have planned for the teaser trailer I am going to need two younger people to act for me in this. Therefore what I have decided to do is to go to the local schools to ask permission for some of the students to be filmed for this. I will also need to get permission from the parents to film their children so I will need to make a permission form for this. If I cannot get permission from the local schools I will use the second version of the shot list. I am currently working on trying to get permission to film during some of the year 7 drama lessons to get an insight as to what they are like as performers and if they are appropriate for what I intend to do. My previous thoughts to the age I wanted was a bit younger than this as it would seem more appropriate with the age gap with how they have changed, but feel that they are not going to be willing enough to do what I intend to film. I have created the story boards for the teaser trailer of what is going to happen but while filming I am going to try as many different angles to see what works best for the teaser trailer. I may change my mind with what shots I am going to include in the final piece. These are first drafts of the storyboards. I have been working on the plot of the romantic comedy for the past week and I have finally decided what it is I am going to do for this.
At the beginning it would be two people who do not know each other that well to end up becoming the best of friends who do everything together until, one of them has to move away. This changes everything for both of them. A few years later however, they meet again when he comes back. This sighting re-embarks the feelings he had for her and he tries to find her again to win her heart. It turns tricky for them when he turns up at her house and she instantly recognises him. This is an issue for her as she has a boyfriend but he is away but instead of telling him, she starts seeing him but just as friends first, to eventually one thing leading to another. To the climax as to where they would finally have there first kiss but are interrupted when her boyfriend rings her/ texts her. This is the point in which I have decided to end the trailer at due to if it was made into a film this would be another turning point in the film and should be a good way of getting the genre across and anticipates something big is going to happen. Therefore I am going to stick with this at the moment and continue with the storyboard and eventually do a first run of the shots to see if it works. If what I done, does not work for any reason I will change it where ever seems appropriate. I might need to extend what I have written for the plot as at the moment it is a bit minuscule but will probably be developed at a later stage after first shooting. I will also be looking at other trailers for instance LOL as it seems the most relevant to my idea. I have decided to create a mood board of all the associations there are with a romantic comedy. I did this at AS and found that it helped with the planning stages of the project and figured I would do the same for the teaser trailer. However, this time I have decided to take the pictures myself that represent the genre. By doing this, it will not only help create the mood board but help with my ability to focus a shot, as this caused a lot of issues last year and I want to avoid having these issues this year, so I am going to do as much camera work as possible for both images and video work. I have decided to create a mood board on Pinterest which will be an on going process of adding to through out the coursework.
The genre I have chosen to base the trailer on is a romantic comedy. I do watch quite a few rom-coms and so I am familiar with this type of genre. Iwill continue to look at other trailers to get ideas from and to help produce the trailer.
To help with the generation of my idea I decided to go on IMDB looking at a list of romantic comedies which I could then look for the teaser trailer of them. So far by doing this I have come up with a couple of ideas which will be uploaded later on.
The IMBD site I have been looking on: http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=100&genres=comedy,romance&num_votes=10000,&title_type=feature I will continue to look at the teaser trailers to some more of these teaser trailers, to with finalising my ideas I have decided to create a mind map on Bubbl to show my decision making and how it has impacted on the choice I have decided to go ahead with.
